How to develop a custom garden sculpture.
You don't need a finished design to start. Here is what helps, and what happens next.
Developing a custom sculpture can feel daunting if you have never done it before. In practice, the process is a series of clear steps, and you can begin with very little: a sketch, a photograph, a reference product or a 3D model.
The more of the following you can share, the faster a manufacturer can give you useful feedback:
- A sketch, photograph, sample or 3D file
- The size you have in mind
- Your target market and customers
- A target price
- Expected quantities
- Preferred materials and finish
- Packaging requirements
- ReviewThe manufacturer reviews your idea, requirements and target market.
- DesignThe concept is developed with digital design and 3D modelling where needed.
- Mould and prototypeA mould approach is developed, and a prototype can be made for approval.
- ApprovalYou review the product and give feedback before production starts.
- Production and deliveryOnce the specification is agreed, the product is cast, finished, inspected and packed for export.
Material, size and finish have the biggest effect on weight, cost and shipping, so settle them early. Agree how your design and product information will be kept confidential before you share them.
